ITÍN (Prosopis Kuntzei)
Caracterìsticas:
Altura: 12 m Diámetro: 35 cm.
Fuste útil: 2.5 m tortuosoEstable dimensionalmente. Resistente a Hongos. Resistente a insectos.
Usos: Durmientes, postes, pilotines
Área de dispersión: Parte occidental del Parque Chaqueño, en forma aislada en Córdoba, Santiago del Estero, Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, Tucumán y Jujuy.
Madera: con textura fina y homogénea, grano oblicuo, veteado y brillo suave. El color de su duramen es de un marrón violáceo oscuro que con el tiempo llegara casi al negro y se diferencia claramente de la albura blanco amarillenta. El Itín esta entre las maderas mas duras y pesadas de la Argentina por lo que es difícil para aserrar, perforar y clavar. Como otras maderas duras argentinas, el Itín no es permeable a tratamientos de preservación, pero es muy durable aun en contacto con el agua y suelo.La madera es muy pesada y muy dura, superior al quebracho colorado y con una notoria característica de ser casi igual en ambos sentidos ( en la dirección de las fibras y en dirección normal a las mismas). Es de difícil trabajabilidad y muy limitado su uso en carpintería en general. Los elementos constitutivos de la madera son pequeños, dándonos textura fina y homogénea de grano oblicuo.Tiene una muy buen resistencia a la flexión y encontraba excelente aplicación para rayos de ruedas de carros, astas de lanzas, cabos para elementos de agricultura, bastones, etc. También es apta pata trabajos en tornos y objetos de fantasía como bochas, cajas, finas, etc. La madera contiene tanino, que le otorga notable duración bajo tierra, propiedad que la hace muy buena para utilizarla como postes de alambrado. Constituye un excelente combustible de alto poder calórico.Actualmente su utilización es muy local, por la poca disponibilidad de madera, debido a su conformación tortuosa y su deficiente estado sanitario.
Usos: El Itin es una madera disponible en dimensiones pequeñas y cantidades limitadas es apropiada para productos especiales como artesanías, cabo de cuchillos, instrumentos musicales; bastones. Por su color casi negro y dureza puede ser usado como sustituto del ébano.

Hola. Mi pedido es casi idéntico al del Sr. Marcelo Baisotti de Agosto del 2011. Yo no hago cuchillos pero soy amigo de un maestro cuchillero que vive en San Luis y me gustaría obsequiarle un par de tablas de Itin (Lo mas oscuro que se pueda encontrar) de unos 15cm de ancho por un metro de largo y una pulgada de espesor. No tengo idea del precio y tampoco si es factible conseguir esta madera. de ser asi; y ya que yo trabajo en madera, le agradecería que me diga si es posible conseguir otras cuantías más adecuadas a los trabajso que yo hago (Pequeñas cajas talladas).
