Tordo Músico (Molothrus badius) - Toro Pozo, Dpto. Jimenez
Características:
Nombre Vulgar: Tordo Músico, Músico, Vaquero Músico, Tordo Mulato, Tordo Bayo.
En esta especie los sexos son semejantes. El plumaje del cuerpo es gris parduzco, con una mancha negra entre el ojo y el pico.
Su cola es negra como así también el pico y las patas. Las alas, dejan entrever un contrastante color canela.
Particularmente, el nombre de la especie con la que se lo bautizó es “badius”.
Este término hace referencia al color general de su plumaje, por cuanto indica el color del dátil maduro (baya-badius) que es castaño o pardo rojizo.
Por lo general anda en pequeñas bandadas de 10 a 30 individuos. No son migratorios, pero en invierno viajan mucho de un lugar a otro, sin extender sus viajes más de unos pocos kilómetros en todas direcciones.
Su extrema sociabilidad afecta sus hábitos nidíferos, pues a veces, la bandada no se rompe en primavera, y varias hembras ponen juntas en un nido.
Por lo general la bandada se deshace en parejas. Luego construyen un nido prolijo y bien hecho en la horqueta de una rama.
Es también frecuente verlos comprometidos en gran lucha para tomar posesión de algún nido realizado con gran cantidad de ramas; para en él o sobre él, construir su propio nido.
